Amazing computer speakers... 2010-09-02 |
| By H. G. (California United States) |
These speakers are incredible for the price and size. They are a little "hefty" for computer speakers but they sound great. Even when playing MP3 recordings (ripped from 1970s vinyl) they have wonderful separation and imaging (my description of a third dimension beyond stereo). And when you are sitting in front of your computer monitor for hours a day, you are sitting in exactly the correct position to hear the most from these speakers.
I have a pair of Dahlquist monitors (no longer in production) in my living room and a pair of Sonus Faber bookshelf speakers in my family room. They both sound amazing when you sit in exactly the right position to listen to them (which I never do). My last pair of computer speakers were Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 PC Speakers which were great as well. They didn't last long due to a faulty volume switch.
Enjoy these speakers. |
good quality for the money 2010-09-01 |
| By kj (Chicago, IL) |
| I needed some better quality speakers for my cowon mp player and ipod. These are fantastic. Just plug in to your outlet, and use the jack/cable for your ipod/or other player and put in the input spot on the speakers and you are good to go. Nice sound and not complicated to hook up like some others. They are not too small or too big either. |

Sound fine, but quality is a big problem 2010-08-16 |
| By tombo (Minnesota) |
When the speakers worked, I thought they sounded fine. They aren't so expensive and I didn't expect audiophile sound quality.
Ever since I bought the speakers, the volume control would crackle a bit. It's been about a year and a half and now the powered speaker is messed up. I have to turn the volume all the way up (on the speaker's control) to get even a little sound out of it. As other reviewers have stated, it's not worth it to send the speakers back to M Audio. When I tried their customer support, all I got was automated messages on the phone and could never speak to a real person. I did get e-mail help, but that is such a pain in the butt. Sending the speakers in will cost you too much in both shipping and repair fees.
If I'd have known that these speakers were the disposable type, I wouldn't have bought them. |
Lush sound - but the amp can be a buzz kill 2010-08-13 |
| By El Gato |
These speakers sound great right out of the box. For the money, it would be hard to find something that sounds as full and detailed. However, The speakers do have two flaws:
1 - minor issue - they are rather big for desktop speakers
2 - major issue - the amp buzzes on some sets. I am driven crazy by electrical hums and the set I ordered was sent back because of a buzz when the speakers weren't playing. Apparently, this is a hit or miss issue with the AV 40's. Caveat Emptor...
