Randy Weinstein knows his s_ _ _ ! 2009-12-08 |
| By Mark Weitzman (Bronx, NY United States) |
HI. I didn't read this book. I admit it. I probably don't need to, been playing for over 30 yrs. But I just wanted to say that I've seen Randy Weinstein perform on numerous occaisions, and he is an immensely talented harmonica player on both the chromatic and diatonic. Hey, he even rocks the sheng. His playing is not only technically proficient, but soulful, articulate, and dynamically balanced as well. So I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in and say you can't go wrong if you get this book. And in case youre wondering, no, he's not a personal friend of mine at this time(unless being a Facebook friend counts).
Keep on harpin'!

Bad Business 2009-11-16 |
| By Mychale E. Inagaki |
| I ordered from this company two months ago and still have not received my order. I e-mailed them twice to inquire on the status and they never responded. I would not buy from this company again and suggest that they be put on alert because if basically, they ripped me off. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Playing the Harmonica, 2nd Edition |
Review of CIG Playing The Harmonica 2009-09-08 |
| By Ryan S. Mease (Chicago, IL, USA) |
This book is perfect for the aspiring player who has in mind to spend 30- 45 minutes a day over a few months mastering all skills on the harmonica.
However, it did not suite my needs perfectly for several reasons:
a) The book doesn't introduce enough songs earlier on. There are a few songs before the reader is taught to play, and then a whole host of songs after the player has spent a long time mastering techniques, but few during the primary learning period.
b) Although the book does have a handy introduction to reading music, it stops using the numbered notation immediately after this introduction, leaving the reader to either learn instantaneously or to write the numbers beneath the stanza, and thus learn through practice.
c) During the period of primary instruction, many of the instructions are vague and confusing. For example, in the short section that teaches different tongue techniques, the "oral mechanics," if you will, of the techniques are hardly presented. The reader does a lot of unappreciated guesswork.
This book is not terrible, but it does have a few drawbacks. |
Very Useful 2009-09-03 |
| By Kendari G. Sandoval |
This was a gift for my boyfriend, who always wanted to learn how to play the Harmonica. I asked him for the review, his words:
"Is a very useful, easy to learn guide, however I didn't like the fact that it brings a lot of history about the Harmonica, I would've taken that part out, to make it more concise. That's why I'm giving it 4 and 1/2 stars".
But if you ask me, I think knowing the history of the instrument you are playing is a good thing. |
Great material for serious beginners 2009-03-18 |

| Book structure and contents are more than I expected. The history and explanations are really enjoyable and satisfied my curiosity regarding the harmonica origins. |
